Healing Springs, North Carolina - Valor Memorial Park!

Valor Memorial Park in Healing Springs, North Carolina (near Denton, NC) is dedicated to honoring veterans, with a focus on both Confederate and all U.S. military veterans. Established by Commemorating Honor, Inc., a nonprofit, the park was officially started in December 2020 and dedicated on September 18, 2021. Its mission emphasizes historic preservation and education, aiming to honor those who served in the Confederate and U.S. military, while inspiring others to respect history. The park is privately owned, maintained through donations and fundraisers, and not affiliated with government entities or lineage societies.
The park was originally created to house the beautiful Confederate monument relocated from Lexington, NC, in 2021, after protests in 2020. The statue, originally in Lexington’s town square, was stored until its installation on Valor's private land. Volunteers and Commemorating Honor, Inc. funded and facilitated the move. After the monument from Lexington, NC, the monuments from Pittsboro, NC and Winston-Salem, NC were also relocated here. Donations, volunteers, and support are much appreciated to help maintain this special, unique park.

The following was published in the Nov 1, 1901 issue of the Times Newspaper in Richmond, Virginia about Jeff Shields: Jefferson (Jeff) Shields is a man of rugged character and is a great favorite among the white people, especially the old-soldier element, for Uncle Jeff counts himself one of the followers of the “Lost Cause.” Uncle Jeff entered the Confederate service as cook [and body servant] with his young master, James K. High Point, North Carolina - Confederate section of Oakwood Cemetery

BEFORE & AFTER the decorative fence was added around the Confederate Memorial in Oakwood Cemetery, High Point, North Carolina. Also notice the addition of a privacy fence in the background. BEFORE photo taken Jan 2020. AFTER photo just taken April 2025. In 1867, the remains of the 50 soldiers buried here were gathered and reinterred in a mass grave in this northeast corner of Oakwood Cemetery, which was established in 1859. This site is notable for having individual headstones with names and records for 48 of the 50 soldiers, a rarity for that era of mass burials. The names include soldiers primarily from the Carolinas and Georgia, such as Capt. B. L. Burnett (1st S.C.) and W. W. Saunders (2nd S.C.). The Confederate Memorial, erected in 1899, is an obelisk on a concrete and stone base, now painted with the Confederate battle flag.
