AFTER photo recently taken Feb 2025. -RJ Coffee County was created by Act of the Legislature in 1854 and is named for Gen John Coffee who served in the Indian Wars and was a Member of Congress in 1833-36. Dedicated on October 14, 1911, the Confederate War Memorial was erected by the Robert E. Lee Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC). The monument’s inscriptions include: “In memory of our Confederate Soldiers” (east face), “1861-1865” with crossed flags (north face), and “Erected by the Robert E. Lee Chapter, UDC.
